Ethics Committee

Ethics Committee Chair Reiner Gloor leads this busy committee tasked in overseeing the implementation of the Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices. Major changes took place upon Chair Gloor’s recommendation to create a committee with members coming from outside the industry.

PHAP believes this is a step in the right direction for Members to attain a good sense of ethical responsibility.

Circular No. 023-08

To : All PHAP Members
Subject : Health & Lifestyle Magazine

It has been observed that some pharmaceutical companies are advertising prescription products in the Health & Lifestyle Magazine. Please note that H&L magazines are available in National Bookstores, Mercury Drug and other newsstands nationwide contrary to the belief that this magazine is being distributed to healthcare professionals only.

H&L is not a medical journal and therefore, advertisement of prescription products therein would constitute a breach of Sec. 4.8 - Lay Media Advertising and Sec. 15 – Communications with the General Public, specifically Guideline #3(a).

We urge those concerned to discontinue advertising prescription products in H&L.

Thank you for your cooperation and support of the PHAP Code.

Best regards,

Reiner W. Gloor
PHAP Ethics Committee Chairman
